Active School Week

Monday 29th May – Friday 02nd June 2017

We are so looking forward to Active School Week in our school this year.  There is a busy week of events planned. We will have special guests visiting our school, demonstrating lots of different activities. The Active Flag Committee members have worked so hard and have a fantastic week planned. Please see details of our timetable for the week under the ‘Active Flag’ section of our website.


Primary School Marathon

On Wed. 24th May children from 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th Class took part in the Primary School Marathon at St. Killians Athletics Club.



Open Evening

Thursday 30th March 2017 at 7pm in our school.

Please come along and join us to see the wonderful work that is happening in our classrooms.

  • Children from 5th and 6th class will present their entries for “Junior Entrepreneur 2017”.
  • There will be demonstrations from: Active Flag Committee, Student Council, Our School Website and much more on the night.
  • Our Music Group will be providing entertainment.
  • Our Parents & Guardians Association will provide refreshments.
  • View our classrooms, including our Aistear role play area in the infant room and the beautiful work on display in our hallways and classroom.



10/02/2017       Book Fair

Thank you to Khan’s Book Fair for coming to our school.  It was a huge success. Thank you to all of the parents for supporting our book fair. We got 269 euro to spend on books for the school. Happy reading everyone!

03/02/2017              Book Fair Tues 7th & Wed 8th Feb

Our annual Book Fair will take place on Tues. 7th & Wed. 8th February.  This year the Book Fair will be supplied by Khan Books.  The school will receive back 25% of all sales to purchase new books for the school.  The fair will be open at the following times:

Tues. 7th February      11.00 am – 4.00 pm & 6.30 pm – 7.30 pm

Wed. 8th February      11.00 am – 4.00 pm

20/01/2017              5k Fun Run / Walk

Parents Jessie and Esther O’Connor have very kindly organised a Curracloe 5k Fun Run / Walk on Sunday 26th February starting from the school at 12.00 noon. Registration at school from 10.30 a.m., with donation on the day.  Refreshments afterwards at the school.  All funds raised go to St. Margaret’s N.S. Please come along and join in this fun event.



16/01/2017       Enrolment for September 2017

Enrolment for September 2017 is now open! If you wish to enrol your child for September 2017, please pick up a registration form from our school office or download from our website (Policies and Forms Section) and return  the completed form, as soon as possible. Mrs. Byrne, our infant teacher, will host an information afternoon for parents in mid May. This will be followed by two induction days for parents and children in late June. More details to follow soon but in the meantime, don’t forget to pick up your registration forms.



10/01/2017                   Literacy Lift Off

Junior and Senior Infants will be starting Literacy Lift Off next week. This is a whole class intervention aimed at increasing each child’s competency in oral language, reading and writing. It gives pupils a lot of opportunities to read books at their own level of competency. Thank you to our hardworking Parents Association who have provided funding for the required books.


Christmas Performances

We are all very busy getting ready for our Christmas Carol Service. The Infant Classes are preparing for their performance of ‘Ralph the Reindeer’ also. The Junior and Senior Infants show will take place on Wednesday, 14th of December at 1.15 p.m. and The Carol Service will take place on Tuesday, 20th December at 10.45 a.m.

We used some of the money raised from our recent fashion show fundraiser to purchase new maths games. They make maths fun!


02/12/2016    Fashion Show

The staff of St. Margaret’s N.S. would like to sincerely thank all who supported the fashion show which was held in Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club on Wednesday 23rd of November.  It was a great success and raised €1,865.  A particular thank you to Theresa Hore Meagher, her family and Carol Watters Cosgrave,  who put a huge amount of time and energy into making the event such a success.  Thank you to the beautiful models and to everyone who donated raffle prizes.  Thanks also to Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club for the use of their facilities, to “The “Loft” and “Candy” for the wonderful clothes and to Sam McCauleys for the Benefit Stand.  We look forward to making this an annual event.

Well done to recent Split the Pot winners Saoirse Lane and Denny Breen who won €208 and €186 respectively.  Thanks to everyone for their continued support.

30/11/2016       Mangahigh Medal Winners!

During Maths Week Ireland, we participated in an online Maths competition called ‘Mangahigh’. The children played numerous maths games and earned points while doing so. (We hear there were some late nights and early mornings for many of our competitors!!) Four students achieved the target of 150 points over the duration of the week and their gold medals arrived in the post last week. A huge congratulations to all of the children who won medals and those who participated also. A very fine achievement for the four medal winners and for the school!



Fashion Show, Wednesday 23rd November 2016

Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club will be hosting what promises to be a spectacular night of fashion and fun on Wednesday, 23rd of November 2016 at 8pm. Tickets cost 15 euro and they include, finger food and a glass of wine. There will be a raffle and door prizes on the night. ‘The Loft’ and ‘Candy’ will be showcasing their beautiful Autumn/Winter range. All funds raised will be in aid of St. Margaret’s National School, Curracloe. Tickets are available to be purchased from the school office now. This is an adult only event. We hope to see you all there!

Word of the Month

The word of the month for November is ‘Friendship’. We try to be kind to our friends and include everyone. Whenever the teachers ‘catch’ us being a good friend, we get a reward.



First Communion News/Preparation Masses

Thank you very much for your attendance at the recent First Holy Communion meeting.

Please see below list of dates for Holy Communion preparation masses:


Sunday 13th November           9.15 a.m.

Saturday 3rd December          7.15 p.m.

Sunday 22nd January              9.15 a.m.

Saturday 11th February          7.15 p.m.        

Your child will need his/her Baptismal Candle for the Enrolment mass on Saturday 22nd October. Kindly send the candle into the school by Tues. 18th October.  We will keep the candle safe in school until the Holy Communion next June.

FIRST PENANCE : Wednesday 22nd March       7.00 p.m.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: Sunday 14th May 2017     11.00 a.m.




Website Update & Cake Sale

We are currently in the process of updating and improving our website. Going forward, there will be content added to our blog pages and website every Friday, so be sure to check in regularly.

To celebrate the launch of our improved website and our new Class Blogs, our Parents Association will be organising a cake sale in our school hall on Friday, 11th of November 2016.

All home baking will be welcome and can be delivered to the school on the day.

There will be a short talk and presentation by some of our senior students showcasing our website at 2.30pm.

We hope to see you there!
