Curracloe National School is privileged to have retired school teacher Martha Torpey teach music to the children in the school. Martha has a lifetime of experience in traditional music. Along with others, she set up Danescastle Music Group in Bannow in 1979.
Martha is accompanied by her daughter, Marie, a qualified and experienced music teacher. Children start with the tin whistle and then have an opportunity to advance to other instruments including fiddle, flute, button accordion, etc.
Lessons are offered to children from first class upwards and it is a wonderful opportunity for the children to get together while learning to play music.
Over the last few years the children have participated and done very well in the Junior Féile in Carrig-on-Bannow. They love busking in town in summer and play for various Senior Citizens parties at Christmas time. They have also had the opportnity to play in local trad sessions and entertain guests to our school at open evenings and for parent and guardian visits.
